Info Wanted. Ovi And A New Student

I want to become a trucker. I had an ovi in the state of Ohio in Feb 2012. Is there any company schools that will except me?Even if I have to sign contract for 2 years or whatever. Has anyone else had to deal with this. I am clean and I can pass any drug test and physical but don't want to go spend $6000 and not get a job.

Well if you're looking for Company-Sponsored Training then you don't have to worry about finding a job. If a company brings you into their program then they intend to hire you upon completion of their training. They won't bring you in if they don't intend to hire you.

Now if you're going to attend a Private Truck Driving School then you would have to pay the tuition up front and of course there is no guarantee you'll find a job afterward. So what you would do in that case is apply for pre-hires before you commit to attending a school.

The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.

If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.

Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.

Thank you Brett ...I really want a company paid training from everything I have read it seems best for me. Any advice on one that I would have a better chance with and ovi that is almost 4 years old?

I'm not sure what the individual company policies are for that. To be honest, that OVI is going to prevent you from getting on with most of those programs. I would apply to all of them myself and see who gives you an opportunity. If you get more than one opportunity then great! Now you have a decision to ponder. But I wouldn't get too caught up in trying to find the right company until you find out who is willing to give you a chance in the first place.
