I wouldn't call it a deception but a favor. If you test in an automatic you are restricted to only driving automatics. If you test on a manual you can drive anything.
Yeah they want to make sure you know how to shift a truck properly so you don't have the automatic transmission restriction on your license. And because you're going to be able to run those automatics in manual mode for the mountains and such they want you to understand how to control the speed of the truck and get into the right gear at the right time for a particular situation.
Thanks for the replies guys. I know about the restrictions which is why I'm concerned. I want to believe the recruiter but I also understand you have to do your own research, which I plan on doing. He said they should have a decision in a few days so I will have some time.

Late night post. Spoke with a recruiter briefly earlier today with my concerns about their automatics and restrictions on my cdl. He told me they train on manuals but run autos on their fleet. Strange. Anybody have experience with this?
