I drive for Dodge 2500 Diesel with a company I work for and I pull a goose neck enclosed trailer with a GVWR of 21,000 lbs the truck has a GVWR of 10,000 lbs. Dodge the manufacturer of the truck lists its GCWR 25,300. The truck and trailer always weigh less than 25,300 LBS when loaded. Do I require a CDL to drive it?
You do not need a CDL for this. Any combination vehicle rated and tagged at less than 26,001 lbs. GCWR does not require a Class A CDL.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A vehicle with two separate parts - the power unit (tractor) and the trailer. Tractor-trailers are considered combination vehicles.
GVWR is the maximum operating weight of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer, minus any trailers.
The GCWR refers to the total weight of a vehicle, including all trailers.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
