Anyone here in the same situation? I figure the trucking industry has a lot of people like me out there. That's part of the reason why i'm choosing to drive. Nothing to tie me down and the freedom to see places i never saw before.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

I here you on that. No sense paying for something you rarely get to use anyway. I figure the days i have off i will get a hotel room sometimes or visit my mother and crash there. The 34 hour resets i will just sleep in the truck and explore and hang out in the area i'm at. The few times paying for a hotel room still is nothing compared to the cost of renting.

Well, here is something to put into perspective, not trying to be the party pooper here. I did just exactly that which was mentioned, I lost my job, had to drop school, paid everything off that I could, and had enough time to get my stuff back in storage in IN.

I was told that getting my CDL out of state was no biggie when transferring back to your home state which in my case was going to be SC. It was a good plan really good plan, until checking to see what all I would have to do since they stamped void on my SC driver's license. So now providing residency in SC has turned out to be quite a challenge, since I have no utility or rent bill that can be verified and no mail.

So anyway that was the last thing I thought would happen. Luckily I did happen to find out that all that is taken care of in IN, but none the less. I guess really that only applies if you will be getting your CDL from school in another state.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Get a PO Box in the town you have your license from. And, you can store the car at a Long Term storage facility. If you live in a city, those can be found easiest in the suburbs.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

A PO box in many states will not be accepted as a mailing address. Use a friend or family members address.
