Is there a Christian owner-operator or someone out there that I could help drive back and forth between FL and NY or FL and NM or FL and CA or something like that, or even short in-state routes? I would think that I could be a great help even if I just drove that long straight I-10 for 700 miles or so a day. But I can do other things like backing, parallel parking (used to back a tractor, baler and hay-wagon combo on a farm). I can also load and unload (experienced with unloading UPS one summer and currently I am a waste management or trash tech where I lift and throw 35 to 45 pounds often in an 8 hr.shift). I drove only 1000 miles for a major company during one summer vacation back in 2010. It really didn't work out - I guess they didn't realize my recruiter said I could train, go back to teach and continue training the next summer. My trainer said they don't do that, but I know I made it clear that was my interest.

Now I am retired from teaching, but my two sons, one 21 years old and other 20 years old want to drive - start a team with me. One is studying to be a pastor, but is pretty sure he will need another job in addition. I am just trying to get experience on my current CDL.A so I can help my two sons. My endorsements are combos, tanker. I let my Hazmat expire - cost to much to keep it on if not using it. One final thing: I have a lot of people ask me to tutor them in math, physics and chemistry. I can even help someone with that. I also have a commercial pilot's license and could teach instrument flying with a flight simulator on a PC. Finally, my wife talked me out of a job where I'd be gone 3 weeks at a time. But maybe one of you owner-operators could use me going back and forth to NY or to CA so I'd only be away a week at a time. It would help me out (getting experience - learning the business), but I feel I have a lot to offer. Please let me know what you think, or contact me if interested in helping me out.

Welcome to TT,

I have never heard of a company allowing you to train for the summer, quit, then go back to training. But anyways. There are many companies nowadays that will get you home weekly. Some are even Christian owned. The main one that pops in my mind, is McElroy. They are a flatbed company. DHT is another one. (Danny Herman Trucking) they also have Team opportunities.

Either way, you may be required to take a refresher course.

Stay safe

Interesting request Don Q. While I do not have an answer for you, I myself would be interested in such an arrangement were one to be found, the driving part that is. You mention that your son is going to be a pastor. How do Christian truckers fulfill their obligation to attend mass if they are on the road so much? I always thought it would be neat if there was a rolling church of some sort that made stops at different truck stops, so that a driver could always stop in for a chat with his maker.

Good luck to you and God Bless.
