At first I was sceptical about Keystone Diesel Institute, but after my first day
I am happy I came to this school.
I am on my weekend now, next week is my last week at the school, provided I pass the Test at the third party tester.
They go over everything with us, I have all my endorsements, Doubles and Triples, tanker, and Hazmat endorsements. I passed all my tests at the DMV the first time, and had to take in house tests which is really good practice.
The guys there at Keystone Diesel are down to earth, very helpful, and they can see where our strengths and weaknesses are, then work with us where we need help.
Currently, I have one week of driving highway, rural, and city driving. As well as time spent on the backing range. We go over step by step how to do the backing maneuvers, they are straight line backing, sight side and blind side parrelel parking, off set backing, and the dreaded alley docking.
With pre trip inspection, we cover everything from the out side appearance, under the hood, brakes, suspension, tires, rims, fuel tank, steps, frame, fifth wheel, and the trailer. There is more, but that's just a little bit of what we need to know.
I will be signing with Paschall Truck Lines once I graduate. From what I gave been told by the recruiter, and saw when I googled them, they look like a decent company.
If anyone has any suggestions, or concerns about PTL please let me know.
HAZMAT:
Hazardous Materials
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
Doubles:
Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.
Dm:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
DMV:
Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles
The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
