I got turned down by TMC today. Not my first choice but moving along. I also received my court report that they got. Would two tickets, one in 07 and one in 08 be a reason for them passing on me? Also had a PI in 06. The tickets were for 15 & 16 over the speed limit. Would stuff that old really be a factor? Hell I was honest with them and told them about it up front. Recruiter said to apply anyways. Like I said, I'm moving on, but was wondering if that could be part of it. Nothing else on the report.

What does your employment history look like? Lots of job hopping or terminations from jobs? This could be another reason they turn you down. If you are looking to flatbed, look into Maverick or Western Express. Two good companies that hire new drivers.

Job history is good. 2 jobs in last 5 years. 4 years at current job

Is the court report that I received what they saw also, or do they see more?

Joe_W asked after TMC turned him down:

I don't know if TMC turned you down with that driving record, because I do not know how far back TMC looks at a driver's record.

In general, companies look back five years. For "serious" traffic offenses, companies may look back 10 years, like Melton.

So, "stuff that old" could be a factor.

Well the safest way to go is to assume they see everything. And they will. If it happened, assume they'll find out about it so don't try to cover anything up.

But at the same time never volunteer anything they didn't ask for. I'm assuming they specifically asked whether or not you had tickets that many years ago? Normally a company will specify they only want to know about tickets in the past 3 or 5 years or any DUI's you may have gotten at anytime. But regular traffic tickets they normally only go back a few years.

Also had a PI in 06

What is a PI?

Brett, I think that means he has a Public Intoxication charge on his criminal background.

Oh I see. I lived in Florida years ago for a short time and I was told that getting a ticket for drinking illegally on a beach that does not permit alcohol would go on your license the same as a DUI would. I never found out if that was true or not but sipping Margaritas on the wrong side of the line sure would be a lousy way to get a serious offense on your license.

It'll go on as a misdemeanor - but not as traffic. Something like "open container in vehicle", but no DUI in the same incident (for example), has a good chance of getting on your MVR.

I have something that happened in PA 6 years ago. It's classified as a "summary offense". Since it below a misdemeanor, I don't declare it on my applications - but it DOES COME UP in a BG. This tripped me up on an UBER Application (of all things).

Usually - if you're rejected from a job because of a BG check - the rejection has to state so, give you the name of the information provider so that you can get the opportunity to clear up erroneous information. This is regulated by the FRCA (Fair Credit Reporting Act), and all the online applications have you check-box an FRCA notice during the application process.

Yes pi is public intoxication. I was completely honest to the exact questions they asked. A lot of them said 3 _ 5 years, some said ever, but I was honest. They didn't say it was my background. They just said "we decided to go with another applicant".
