Tried to ask my recruiter but she wasn't in the office so I wondering if any of you guys would know. I got my permit today finally, after getting proof of residency squared away. I live in a rural area so they mail the physical id to us. I was wondering if the temporary paper CDL permit would be good enough to use at the academy or will I need the physical one? Thanks guys I appreciate it!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

How long ago did you pass? I got my actual hard card 4 or 5 days after passing. Also not sure where you are going but they start new classes every week.........

I passed about two weeks ago but had issues proving my residency. There are new laws in New Mexico that have made it harder to get ID because they were giving them to illegal immigrants. Anyways I got my permit today but it can take quite a while to get it. I am aware of classes starting every Monday. I am hoping I can go on the 21st but I may not have the physical permit by then. Hopefully it won't take to long.

Definitely man. I am going to Phoenix so it may be a different story I am gonna call her again this afternoon and if she doesn't answer I'll ask another recruiter haha. I already had to wait so a little more won't hurt it just sucks cause I am 3 weeks past my 2 weeks notice at work. Thankfully they like me enough to let me work till I go. Good luck to you as well and be safe!

I just used my paper permit in cdl school for Swift and that was fine. Might just have been where I was though. Double check with your recruiter

That is good to hear Paul. I am going to Phoenix, hopefully the paper will be good enough. I don't want to wait any longer especially since I have over stayed my welcome at my job haha.

Lol yeah get outta there already! But yeah seriously check with a recruiter before hopping on a bus. Also make sure you have CDL--yes, Class A (if there's a box for class a) checked on your long form medical and medical card.
