While I am in the process of getting the following,

CDL Permit, Going over the Weight Section and the Log book Section,

Once this is complete, what is the next step to take? Thanks, Mark

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

To put yourself ahead of everyone else in your class, you need to work thru the entire High Road...so that while they are struggling thru the classes, you will whizz thru, and the trainers will get tired of looking at your smiling face, and take you out on the training course and put you in a truck...ahead of everyone else !!!! So back to the High Road, buddy....don't make me haveta come over there.....We don't have any quiters here....we just have folks who need a little "persuading" smile.gif

Mark, what's next is when you put those big boy pants on and get out there behind the wheel.

Have you determined how you are going to do your training for the CDL yet? Forgive me if you've already told us - I just can't keep up with all you guys anymore. There's just been such a rush of people coming through here lately, and I'm burning up the highway night and day so that I lose track of who's going where for what!

I will say this though, that log book section in the High Road Training Program will be the most beneficial section to helping you make the most of your time out there on the road. Time management is one of the critical skills that elevates successful drivers above the average ones. I can't tell you how many guys I've seen from my company sitting at truck stops because they didn't realize they had run out of hours. That shouldn't happen to someone who understands how to manage that clock to his benefit. That section lays it all out for you, and once you get out on the road it will all start to make perfect sense as to how it works and how you can work the clock so that it is your ally and not your enemy.
