Wow......Time flies. I really wanted to post a daily diary in the diaries section. I started one, but could not keep up with it. Sorry! for the last 3 days we have been learning Offset Backing, Parallel Parking, driving around the "track" upshifting, downshifting and right hand turns. The range instructors here are Top Notch! We have had 4 different Instructors off and on over these 3 days. The instruction is consistent among all of them, and each one has a few tips and tricks that are helpful. So far I could not have asked for a better experience. There is so much to learn in such a short time, very intense! There are no slackers in my class, everyone is busting their butts to nail this thing. I do not believe that anyone who wasn't taking this course seriously could succeed. We all help each other, its great. My nemesis, double clutching and shifting (up and down) left the property today. It all clicked! Whew.................I have been sweating that more than anything else. My offset and parallel are good. 99% of the time I am "In the Box". Everyone on this site has something to do with my success to this point. Trucking Truth prepared me for so much. I do not think I would be this comfortable right now without Y'all.

Thanks Everybody, I'll report back soon!

Double Clutch:

To engage and then disengage the clutch twice for every gear change.

When double clutching you will push in the clutch, take the gearshift out of gear, release the clutch, press the clutch in again, shift the gearshift into the next gear, then release the clutch.

This is done on standard transmissions which do not have synchronizers in them, like those found in almost all Class A trucks.

Thanks Chickie, This ranks up there with some of the biggest challenges in my life. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks! smile.gif

Yes, Tractor Man, there are some challenges for you in the next few weeks.

I just want to point out:

We have had 4 different Instructors off and on over these 3 days. The instruction is consistent among all of them, and each one has a few tips and tricks that are helpful.

If the instructors are all consistent, then they all work off the same plan/ outline. It's a sign of a "real" school, not just a place that hires "old timer" drivers who teach from their experience.
