1 with a balanced trailer and proper speed can be down safely under most conditions.

2 is avoidable.

3 preparations is the key for this.

4 is this a head wind? Tail wind? 90 degrees cross wind? Or a quartering wind?

5 I had a student from South Texas do this. Going down a very long 6 % grade in the Rockies. Made him pull over set the brakes. We sat there for about 30 min will he walked up and down the side of the road I swear he smoked a pack of cigarettes. Then I put him back in the driver's seat and made him finish the drive thought the Rockies. After that he did not did not have a single problem driving thought the Mt he had faced his biggest fear. Something that causes his mind and body to freeze. He Concord it and won.

How about 6 your driving along a 1 lane road in the dark, with no shoulders . The forecast is for a front quartering cross wind at 25 with gusts to 45 mph with a chance of snow showers. You crest a little hill and drop down into a valley all of a sudden you in fog so thick you can't see past your your hood, you can't see the road it's covered in snow and ice.

Remember it's not any one problem that can get drivers in trouble it's when you have a confluence of events and choice s that you get into trouble.

Yeah you hit it in the head with this one--fog and reduced traction with only one lane on your direction of travel. Fog can be horrible because you run the risk of hitting someone if you drive fast, but you also run the risk of getting rear-ended if you drive very slowly. And some people don't use their lights in fog!!

At this point, I would calmly key in the qualcomm ...."its been fun, but I quit. Your rig is at exit 46 Interstate 50, come and get it the key is in the overhead compartment, " I'm out". lol

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

Ah come on man, this is when it gets fun! I get so tired of driving in a straight line with hardly any cars or trucks around me in some of the Midwest.

YES !! A head wind when the winding road makes it thus. Ohh it will be a tail wind going through that exit ramp. I guarantee you that @ the same ramp it will also be 90 degress to your rig. Dare I say the same with a quartering wind.
