I always say double whatever you think you need.
What company are you signing up with?
Some companies charge tuition and get you a hotel room. Others get you a room plus food. A few do that plus pay you.
I was looking at Millis Transfer. It would be OTR but I'm ok with it. Not thrilled but experience is experience. I know they pay really well right off the bat. And where I live the said I might get more home time just because I would pass my area a lot with loads. I looked at other places and I just feel Millis is a good one. And even then I know after 18 months they reimburse you all but the 500 I believe at least that's what the recruiter said.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

I posted a month or so ago about poor recruiters. Well, I decided to call back and actually got a recruiter that, not only answered my questions but also made it hard not to be like when do I start. As it currently stands, I am getting married in July. Definitely cannot make the jump because of that commitment and honeymoon is already paid for. However, my current situation is probably like some, but I currently work for a steel shop on 4 days a week. Money is super tight and trying to plan for going to school is one of the hardest things to budget. The company I have been researching and looking into has a deposit of 500 total and is 3 weeks long and then you begin your on the road training. I could have posted this in the wrong section and I apologize. How much money should one bring to sustain himself for that long? I understand bills need covered, but my fiancé is a teacher and makes decent money since she is in a bigger school district. She does support me getting me getting my CDL mainly to have something I can fall back on if the shop gets any worse, which is possible. But back to my question, what is a safe amount to take for the 4-5 weeks without pay?
