Will a US passport card alone do for trucking into Canada or Mexico? Or do I need a book?

I would think you'd need to carry your actual passport. The card is for you to have a record of the number in case you lose your passport.

Incorrect.

The card is good for Mexico, Canada and (most) Cruise Ships.

I have both for international travel - but carry the card, as well as my TWIC.

Also - little known fact - TWIC will get you through the priority line at airports.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

So all I need is the card for trucking? Btw I am not planning to go overseas anytime soon.

Card is fine for Canadian border crossings. It's obviously less expensive than the book. If you had to choose one - the book is more universal. But the card fits the wallet and is easier to carry (and lose).

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Do you carry yours in your wallet? I was wondering because that's what I was planning to do when I paid extra for the card, but I don't because it looks like it's too fragile.

Yep. Inside zippered pocket, along with TWIC , SS card & Concealed Permit (LOL).

It's not all that fragile, no more fragile than a TWIC or DL.

That's interesting to know. My card came with my passport. Have always left it in a safe place at home and carried the actual book.
