So after a ton of research and a few phone calls, decided to go with Stevens transport for training and new career. I feel great about the company, but can find no real information on the school which is Ranger College in Ranger,Texas. It sounds like a great deal for me, but could it be too good? Maybe last minute jitters who knows. Not about leaving home as I have done that already for the last 12 years as a Merchant Marine working in oil field. Just nervous about school is all. Sounds good on paper and on the phone though, thats for sure. Anyway just wanted to get that out there. I appreciate any response. Also, Thank you to all of our service members and vets to even give us the opportunity to be able to make these choices! Happy memorial day everyone.

OldSalt is nervous:

Just nervous about school is all.

Same as any school: you sit in class, instructors instruct. You take notes.

Then you go outside, instructors show you how it's done (backing, probably) then you do it.

On the highway, they won't let you run over anything. It's all little steps till you get it down.

Your biggest enemy is your own frustration and flusterment. As a merchant mariner, you may have to let it a few choice ancient nautical terms, but everybody will understand.

Grandmas have done this. You can too.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
