Just starting out, how much time can I expect to have?

The most common is one day home for every week on the road. Each company has their own variation though.

Depends on what you consider starting.. and your trainer as well as compnay.

I started with Prime's school sept 21st. My mom had an emergency bypass so I flew home Nov 18th. Got back on road a week later. Got home for xmas thru new years then out until Feb 26th.

I went company solo feb 14th. Have been home feb 26th for 4 days Apr 14th to 18th I took to see my guy in NC instead of home in NJ May 19 to 23 this wasn't even scheduled I was in the area and not feeling well Memorial day weekend they accidentally gave me a run past my house so spent one night Jun 8th I took 3 days.

With Prime it's stay out 4 weeks get 4 days off. If you stay out longer you can bank the extra days but can't take more than 4 at a time or they want you to turn in your truck and get another when you come back.

I just shoot my FM a message... "would like hometime for this date if possible please". Never been turned down and except for once I gave me a few weeks notice.

If you don't take it no one is going to tell you to hahah

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Thankyou for the info. I'm looking at going with Celadon. They give you 14 on 2 off.

Knight has several different home time plans and there are others. Don't rush it research it. Good luck.

Realize the home time policy may not apply during your road training. Unless Celadon is vastly different from the other TL carriers, you are "out" until you have completed the training.

Good luck.

During my Swift training I was home 3 times in 5 weeks. My trainer had a dedicated job than went near my home. It was certainly not something to plan on. The point is that during training, be ready for anything.

Wow, nice. You were lucky. When I trained with Swift, in 6 weeks, I never made it home,...it seems to vary from person to person.

Same. When I finally got home, my wife literally jumped into my arms.

Now I'm home on average every three weeks by choice.
