The license suspension is what's hurting you. If you can give them at least 3 clean years a company school would consider you.
Since they've made changes to the permits, I would recommend waiting to renew your permit if it expires prior to finding a company that will over look the issues mentioned. I would more so recommend trying to get a hold of someone at the DMV or DOT that knows better than I do about the new limits on permits and renewals since I am not 100% sure if that's the advice I should even be giving. If there is any possibility of paying for school or maybe hunting into government grants or even taking out a loan if possible. From what the DMV up here told me you only get the initial permit and one renewal, after that it's too bad so sad. Can not get another permit....unless you add an endorsement? Something like that. I don't want to try to scare and/or discourage you, just want to give you the heads up on my personal experience. I was a little baffled and upset when DMV told me that, and ofc there is the potential that the person I spoke to was misinformed herself.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
Just wondering if you've had any success, Glenda.
I too have a suspension and a long employment gap but I have received pre-hire letters from several companies.
Of course every case is different. I'll post an introduction in the general forum along with a description of my circumstances and results.
On a side note:
Perhaps there would be more activity here in the ladies category if more of us menfolk would hang out here.
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.
We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.
