Haha, that's great, it *is* catching on. But yeah, I don't pretend to be an expert on parking or anything, but I think you definitely have to be smart about it. I don't think you'd generally want to nose in to any old spot, you want to have lots of space to back straight out, like Errol said, and you want to think about if late comers will be parking there. But there are a couple of truck stops i go to where it's easy to do in a lot of spaces, and people do it. There was an earlier thread where I think Paul mentioned that it's somewhat dangerous to back out because you can't see side to side if there's trucks on either side, and that's a good point too.
I hope it doesn't catch on, because it would defeat the purpose if everyone did it, for me anyway, because I do it for quiet. A couple months ago I nosed in to a space only to have someone nose in next to me and idle all night. And it wasn't just the engine noise, the fan would cut in and out every couple minutes. And the worst thing is that I met the guy and he was nice, so I couldn't even be annoyed at him. He was a flatbed driver who said he doesn't like to back in because his trailer doesn't turn as sharply as a van.
Anyway, I'll keep doing it when appropriate. I don't worry about the people who think it's because I can't back in, or who just think it's the wrong thing to do because it's not what everyone else does.

The space available to nose in straight may not be available when attempting to back out and leave.
Another way to look at this,...if there is enough space to nose in straight, there is plenty of space to set up for a relatively easy back.
