Okay I'll have go to school I have a class A permit so not to sure what the school part Is going to do I have over 10 years experience driving triaxle dumps and ready mix concrete trucks

You have to have a permit before you get started. They then bring you to Joplin for the drug test. If you are going to the student program, they will send you to school. If you went to school on your on, you will go through orientation. Bring your receipt for school. They reimburse up to $4,000, spread out over a year.

Jason, the OTR trucking industry really doesn't consider what you've done as valuable experience. I know that sounds crazy, but there are reasons for that. One of the biggest stumbling blocks for people who get into this is the simple fact that for this to work you have got to embrace it as a "lifestyle." You will spend a good bit of time paired with a trainer to get yourself exposed to that part of this career.

There are still a lot of things for you to learn that you never had to do while driving large construction type vehicles. Things like electronic logs , trip planning, communication via the Qualcomm , dealing with shippers and receivers, understanding the processes on how to best manage your time on a load, understanding and being able to work within the system of management at your company so you can get the best loads...

There is just a lot of things you've never been exposed to. There's a lot more to this career than just knowing how to handle a big truck. Some of that is hopefully going to be gone over between whatever schooling they choose to give you and your time with a trainer.

Electronic Logs:

Electronic Onboard Recorder

Electronic Logbook

A device which records the amount of time a vehicle has been driven. If the vehicle is not being driven, the operator will manually input whether or not he/she is on duty or not.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
