Welcome aboard Al, we're glad to have you on board!
I started my career at Western Express, drove for them for 16 months, and would probably be there still had it not been for a very generous offer from Knight to have me join them to help serve one of their customers on a dedicated flat-bed gig.
Western Express is one of the companies that will give new, freshly licensed, drivers a shot at learning how to be a professional driver in a very challenging career that is misunderstood by so many people. The constant problem that so many of these companies that hire new drivers face is the constant churn of employees that they experience. They all do everything they can to train and keep good drivers. The problem does not lie in the management of the company, but rather in the total indoctrination of new drivers with false information and false expectations that they expose themselves to by researching trucking company reviews on line. I have always known the information on this career that floods the internet was false, but after being out here for a few years I began to see just how damaging it is to new folks trying to make an entrance into this career. They get all kinds of notions how to succeed in this career, and yet they are generally getting it from folks who have been total failures at all of this stuff.
If you have some more specific questions, feel free to ask them and we will do what we can to help you understand things. In the mean time take a look at this old conversation we had with someone who was trying to choose between Western Express and another company. Hopefully it will give you some insights into how to be successful while driving for Western Express, or any of the many companies who will hire a new driver.
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
