Been in the USAF for the past nine years, the past three as a dog handler. I'm pretty well burnt out with the way the military is going and looking for a change, don't worry fellow vets I wont be throwing 9 years away I'll go Guard or reserve to finish my time. Been looking for a new career and I continuously circle back to driving truck. Anyone care to give some insight on how it is nowadays? I haven't heard much since this is really the first time Ive asked about it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your service Robert.

Do some reading here - and in the Training Diaries forum on this site. Should give you a pretty good idea as to what to expect when you first get out there.

I'm not sure yet, just trying to get a feel for how it is these days. Ive got two years and change to make up my mind or for something to change but I'm definitely considering this.

Hi!

Thank you for serving & protecting our country!!🇺🇸

I was in the same boat. After 28 years in EMS I made the change.

I agree the articles on here & The High Road are super helpful & well done.

So far I have ZERO complaints with the company I chose, Wil-Trans . One of my deciding factors is I wanted a company that left the choice of either team or solo up to me. As most things, there are pros & cons to both. I just didn't want to be forced to do one or the other.

Good luck with your decision & be safe

Wil-Trans:

Darrel Wilson bought his first tractor in 1980 at age 20, but, being too young to meet OTR age requirements, he leased the truck out and hired a driver.

Through growth and acquisition, Wil-Trans now employs over 200 drivers, and has a long-standing partnership with Prime, Inc. to haul their refrigerated freight. The family of businesses also includes Jim Palmer Trucking and O & S Trucking.
