You may remove that "Rookie" status now. Congratulations!

P & D:

Pickup & Delivery

Local drivers that stay around their area, usually within 100 mile radius of a terminal, picking up and delivering loads.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers for instance will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.

So tell me, how do you feel now behind the wheel compared to a year ago?

Once I went solo I was so much more relaxed not having someone judge me and correct me all the time. That allowed me to concentrate on time management and learning the roads and where the truck stops are. I found some real gems that have parking 24/7 on routes I travel often. My mom can't believe I wind up at the same circle k about once a week or two. Makes me feel better.

I'm not so concerned about finding parking as I used to be. For example last night I parked at 2000 at a rest area which I wouldn't have done before. I would have just paid for reserve parking somewhere. I'm.much better at backing although tight places still take me forever. But now I don't care that it does. Before I would be rattled by the other drivers. Now I figure they just have to wait. I'm more gutsy too...I told a guy yesterday "I've been waiting 15 min for that truck to back in...I'm going next to him in that door so don't park in front of the office please." I probably would have waited before.

I also feel more comfortable with prime and my FM. The first three months I thought I was in trouble every time I was routed through a terminal lol. I'm more likely to tell dispatch "I'm not fueling in Birmingham at midnight due to safety reasons.,fuel me elsewhere" or even weather shutdowns.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
