I just traded in a 14' for a 17'. Not sure what you mean by closed, but the reservoir still on the driver's side.

Like a battery with a closed system where you cant check the battery fluid.

Wouldn't actually be a "closed system" per se'.

More like a "sealed system".

Power Steering systems are 99.9% ALWAYS going to have a reservoir somewhere, that allows you to check levels and top off if necessary. Cooling (coolant) systems are "sealed", in that they are PRESSURIZED when hot - but these have "overflow/reservoirs" - where you can check and add coolant.

Transmissions in trucks, as well as differentials (rear ends) are sealed and have no dipsticks to check lubricant levels. They typically have a "drain hole" and a "fill hole" are are filled until lubricant (gear oil) starts coming out of the fill hole - but you can't visually check their levels in a "pre-trip inspection".

Rick

Pre-trip Inspection:

A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.

Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.

Diver Driver,

I'm still relatively new on this site, but the more I'm on here, the more it looks like everyone is from back home. I was just hitting up another new driver from Lafayette, and now I notice your from Youngsville. Damn small world. Are you still there? Who do you drive for? How's the trucking industry since the oilfield has slowed down? I'm still in the Navy and deployed, but I'm retiring soon and going back home is always an option.

Thanks, J

Of course the tranny. Thanks for catching that. I must have been studying the steering system when i asked the question. And thanks for not making sound like a stupid question. Welcome, J from the navy. I personally think military people make for very good truck drivers. I notice them out there. Piece of cake.
