Congratulations and I promise at some point you'll appreciate his micromanagement. I can assure you he's had plenty people tell him 'I can do it' only to run over something. This business is a earned trust business. Once he gets to know you and see you doing it you'll start to earn his trust and he'll start turning you lose.
Good for you Robby. Next time you are at a Walmart, buy a small DC operated fan with a clamp that you can attach just about anywhere in the vicinity of your bunk. It will circulate the air.
Safe travels.
Congratulations Robby!
I anticipate being just as excited when I eventually start this career. Soon!
I remember being with my trainer. He was a terrible trainer, but I was having the time of my life. There's an adrenaline rush that comes from commandeering one of these gentle giants across the country. It can seem euphoric at times.
I still wake up every morning with a sparkle in my eye, excited to solve another puzzle of a day. There's nothing quite as rewarding as making it happen out here on the highway!
We're real excited for you Robby, keep us posted.
That is the correct attitude to have..... your embracing you situation and making the best of it.... You will be fine driver. Stay safe and good luck.
Hey Robby,...
Like Old School I still get a charge out of this, every time I turn the key and fire up "all of them ponies". I hope it is always the case for you as well.
Be safe.
Wow...this is FUN!!! Left Springfield on Sunday with my first trainer and we are parked tonight just south of Milwaukee,WI...we've already dropped three loads and have two more tomorrow...first is at 0300 and the next is 0600. After that we are hoping to get something west bound. We are refer. Except for my trainer driving me crazy repeating himself (shift shift shift shift, etc.), his hard to understand accent (he is from Nigeria), and him not telling me what's going on nor letting me attempt anything without him micromanaging every move (I know he has to watch my every move, but come on! Let me try!!), it's been a blast! I cannot wait until I get my own truck and get this new career going for real! So far I have driven on the interstate , in city traffic, and actually backed to a dock (and nailed it after I convinced him I could do it without his micro-management...lol) and haven't cracked, bent, or broken (see what I did there??) ANYTHING!! I know I have lots and lots to learn and I hope that never ends (if it does, I'll park it!). This is everything I had hoped it would be and more. I miss my wife terribly, but we do talk every day when we park for the "night". I can't express how much I have depended on all of you for knowledge...and I thank each of you for that! By the way...since I haven't learned this on this site yet, I thought I'd throw this out there for anyone who might appreciate this tid bit of info...the top bunk gets frigging HOT at night!!! 😂. I realize I CAN DO THIS! And when I get my truck and have at least an additional 90-120 more days under my belt, I'll invite my wife to join me on some trips. Thanks again everyone! I look forward to the day I can change my status to "experienced driver" and help others "live the dream"!!
Yay!!!!! Keep in mind he is from Nigeria and is controlling the heater. You can ask him to turn it down. My trainer froze me to death and I kept buying blankets hahha
Glad u r having fun. Hang in there and training will be done sooner than you know.

Is getting better each day,I'm glad to report. He even let me dive through heavy traffic in Milwaukee and Chicago yesterday...got LOTS of practice up and down shifting to say the least! Like McDonalds says, "I'm lovin it!"
Robby- my trainer was from W Africa. So I completely understand.
He has the virtue of patience. In my experience, it's common for trainers to become impatient and yell. A lot of times that is not helpful and can make the situation worse.
