Why? I feel like I'm being asked to reimburse my bus fair. Does anyone know why I'm being charged.

I'm not sure but your recruiter should be able to tell you. Usually there's some sort of administration fee that covers things like the DOT physical and the fee for getting your permit and license.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

I see that in my recruiting packet too.. I think it's to cover the cost of your background checks, etc...if you have to take your permit with Prime, it's another $ 50 fee, which they tell you up front.

I can tell you that Knight Transportation has a $100 "application" fee. Kind of strange that they finance around $3000 interest free but charge a 100 fee. Could be they want to see some type of investment from the student even if its small. Or could be to cover the cost of the physical or some other expense.

Just thought I'd let ya know other companies have charges like that.

My boyfriend is at Prime RIGHT NOW, I asked him about the $100....its an application fee. A lot of companies require it.

I just graduated from Knight Transportation's CDL Training. It is the norm to pay the application fee to cover your physical and drug screen. If you fail either of those then you are not hired. Tell tem not to fall for the lease operator program. I think i remember seeing something on here about those programs, but i am sure that Brett could provide more info or a link.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
