CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Ryan - I know some states have programs to help you get employment, particularly if you've earned it during your "rehabilitation stint." Like here in San Diego, there is a program called "Second Chance" which helps former and current felons with training and job placement. Recommend seek out a local agency to help you with this.

Ryan, you will probably have to do a refresher, and go out with a trainer....but you have the major part already done !! now you have to find a company that will accept you for that stuff. APPLY EVERYWHERE...All companies have different rules on felony convictions. And I think your only drawback would be if you are on probation/parole...which would limit your out of state travel severely... So step out there and put yourself infront of them...and good luck. We're here to help all we can. Trucking is a great 2nd chance for those of us who slipped of the straight and narrow path, and have paid their dues, and are ready to get on with their life.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
