I'm not EVEN gonna get into the BOB/cell phone thing....I'll let Mistelle explain that one, I think. But, as to the rest..here goes.. A camera is invaluable, but i'm not sure about a kindle. I have one, but I'll admit that all I do on it is play games, and read books. I laptop is your best bet, unless you like small screens, which I don't. I think most of the drivers get their WiFi thru their cell phones, and I think the best carrier, according to the drivers, is Verizon. Your cell phone will have to be one that will give you 3-4G so that you will have a high speed WiFi..But put this question on the general board, and the guys will fill you in on whats best...I'm electronically challenged. APU's are in some trucks, but they are a high maintenance item, and I think the trucking companies are getting away from them. Most drivers idle their trucks for heat in winter and cool in summer. Every company has their own rules about that, so its something to ask, when you are looking at companies to go with. And I'll be glad to make you some washies !!!! Do you have a color preference ??
On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.
Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.
