Not to Jack a post but when you say" like you to sign a lease" I see that as creating some sort of problem if you dont? They can't force it can they? And this is not to downgrade them I mean any company?

Tony, the things any company looks for in your life are pretty much done. I'm not saying you have done these things, but companies look at your driving record (a fender bender or a simple speeding ticket may be ok. Injury crashes or 15+ mph over will be a concern.)

You should be drug speck* and span clean for at least a few months, some may say at least 6 months. Be sure to help at least one elderly person across the street once a week. But I think that last one may be going a bit overboard.

Now for the employment picture. With a DOT physical and the CDL permit, nearly any large company will be interested in hiring you. Yes, from your recruiter's point of view, he needs your name in the can as soon as you can commit. The school date can be flexible, but return the favor and sign with your recruiter who has helped you.

One last thing, I don't see it mentioned in this post. I believe CRE will like you to sign a lease on a truck. This is something Trucking Truth recommends against for new drivers. Also be wary of team driving unless you and a buddy agree ahead of time. Search here for team experiences, just so you'll know.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Attitude makes a differnece . at prime you get your CDL then sign the hiring papers....but I saw someone who was a WITCH yell at workers and be loud and nasty. They sent her home for "not being prime material". They didn't even let her test.

No, they can't force you to lease and no, you won't be given any problems if you don't lease. The hardest part about it is that their sales pitch is really, really well done. If you listen to them for ten minutes they will make it seem painfully obvious that leasing is the road to riches and anyone too cowardly or too dumb to lease a truck and make more money can always settle for being a poor company driver.

Don't fall for it no matter what.

You can always lease a truck later in your career if you like, but no one should do it their first year. That's the kind of stuff you consider after you've learned how to drive the truck, manage your time, learn how this industry works, and handle life on the road.
