I don't mean this as a jerk, but look at your atlas. I've only had 1 delivery / PU in Chicago proper. Normally I end up going around.

I don't know what route your driving now. But the 294 is that I take most of the time. Are you trying to stay off toll roads or anything? As for traffic I plan my trips as much as I can around traffic shutting down early and getting up early is one of my faverts. Get trought a bid city about 2 to 5 am and then out and gone. Can you sleep at your delivery ?

So what way are you going and can you change your times to avoid peak traffic? What is the actual city name?

I drive through 80, 294, 55, all the time. I usually park at Gary IN TA or a rest area just south and wait out the traffic to save my hours.

I drove intermodal there during training at the rail yards near the UPS (willow springs), and we have a drop yard on Cicero.

I have a couple customers in aurora and Joliet. And for them prime keeps trying to send me across US 30 which although less traffic has lots of lights, and one really weird weigh station. It has more of an inner city feel, and has one scrary looking 13ft 6in clearance that makes me pray every time I go under it.

US 30 W to IL 59 N crosses I 88 (west of 355). But like I said..I take the toll roads as much as possible for convenience.

But....they've had so.much construction up there on I 88 I'm not sure what that is looking like now.

Intermodal:

Transporting freight using two or more transportation modes. An example would be freight that is moved by truck from the shipper's dock to the rail yard, then placed on a train to the next rail yard, and finally returned to a truck for delivery to the receiving customer.

In trucking when you hear someone refer to an intermodal job they're normally talking about hauling shipping containers to and from the shipyards and railyards.

Not sure about you reefer and van guys but we deliver and pick up from places designed in 1700s seems like. These places have no business having trucks there. 2 thumbs way down for Chicago

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.
