So I understand that a pre trip is basically the same thing as what I'm about to say but these are some things I have seen as a technician that should be paid attention to to save your life or others or at least down Time. This is just a few things off the top of my head
+ get lug nuts re torqued after any wheel off maintenance and on pm service
+ slack adjuster connected at both ends
+anything dragging
+drive shaft are tough to see but if you can get a glimpse of them look at the straps and caps. Bolts in straps like to come lose and caps can get broke clear off if worn
+drain air tanks
+ always be aware of steering components and noises
+ brake chambers ive seen them hanging many times and rubbing tires.
This should all be checked and caught on pm services but in the end who do you trust more than you?
