At 42, I have decided that truck driving is more likely to pay my bills than being a school custodian. (The first job that came along after an 1800 mile move) I would say that 95% of my employment history has been in male dominated fields, so that part does not bother me. I come from a family of truck drivers (both parents and both brothers) so I know the lifestyle, demands, disappointments, and rewards. WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE FOR CDL TRAINING? WHICH SCHOOLS SHOULD I AVOID? I LIVE A LITTLE WAYS FROM SPRINGFIELD, MO, AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHICH ONE IS BEST....

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Where you live, theres quite a few schools..try this link, put in your town, and see what you get.. Truck Driving Schools. If you don't like the close ones, then you can go to a distant one, since most schools will put you up, feed you, and such. Start applying and see waht makes you happy...They are all pretty much the same, BUT...by making that commitment to go to their school, you are also signing a contract to drive for them until your schooling is paid for. So pick your school VERY CAREFULLY...you will need to stay with them for around a year...And its wise to stay with your first company for a year anyway..you look better to other companies when you apply for a driving position. And DON"T go to a school that has auto transmissions in their trucks....it limits you horribly, since a new law went into effect. ALSO..you will need to start studying...the...High Road Training Program. It will help you get your CDL permit, and all endorsements, so you will be ready for school. AND it will help you TONS while your in school...you will be ahead of everyone esle in your class !!!! So do your research on a school...and study everything on here. I"ll tell you up front...the High Road Trucking course ain't for sissies...its tough, but so is school, and trucking..so get to it, Sister !!! AND...Welcome to TT !!!! we are here to help you all the way thru...Feel free to post on this forum, or the general forum...you are welcome in both !!!!
