A new study has confirmed what your mother tried to tell you - that eating your fruits and vegetables will make you healthier. The more the better, with a whopping 10 servings per day being the optimum goal.
A portion counts as 80g (3oz) of fruit or veg - the equivalent of a small banana, a pear or three heaped tablespoons of spinach or peas.
With proper refrigeration, many fruits and vegetables also have a long shelf life, as well.
The study was a "catch-all" of 95 individual studies, pooling the eating habits of some two million people. Some of the conclusions follow:
