So as you already have read, I have an orientation invitation from U.S. Express that after my ticket in April, 2014 falls off which would be April 3rd and they would want me to come to orientation on April 5th. I told my recruiter at the school who is trying with all that she has to help me get into a flatbed company, and she was happy for me but then asked me " So your going with U.S. Express?," and I was like, well yeah I mean umm what should I say...? LOL. Then she said she wanted me to fill out 4 more applications which I have 3 of 4 already filled out and almost done with the 4th one now. The companies are Boyd Bros., Covenant, McElroy, and Melton. I really, really, really like Boyd Bros. and Melton! I like the other 2 also but not as much though I do really like McElroy just my fear is that since they don't have a terminal here I am not sure if I can take my truck home which is of course in Virginia, go figure.

So my really important question is that I know it does not matter the name on your truck to = my success, but I don't know which companies I should go with because I know McElroy and Boyd Bros. offer some sweet home time let alone great pay. Melton has some awesome trucks but less pay but again my ambition= my success. So my serious question is, if you put yourself in MY position, what would YOU do??? I am sort of stumped and yet super excited that I got an orientation invitation!

Thanks for all your help and God bless!!

Sincerely future fellow trucker: Victor C. II

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I don't think taking your truck home would be a problem. FM will just route you near there with your load. Stop at home on Friday and head out Sunday.

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Follow your recruiters lead and keep at it. You need to have some options. Nothing is settled yet. U.S. Express has not hired you yet. If one of those flat-bed companies takes you on you can do what it is that you really want to do. Remember Victor, I went to three different orientations before I actually got hired anywhere. Your recruiter sounds like they know what you are up against and they are looking out for your best interest.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Not really... just depends on where he lives and if he's in the city he might wanna do some fast talking to the Walmart near him... I live in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach area and I have two truckstops to choose from... one charges 10$ a day and the other is 25 for the weekend. So just be sure you have a safe and legal place to park it.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Ok sounds like my recruiter is sending me in the right direction! Sweet, and thanks Old School for the encouragement because I almost fell into the trap of thinking that it was settled. Thanks Parrothead, for the heads up because that is one of the reasons why I didn't choose them at first because I thought I might not be able to bring it home. O and CWC I have a rescue squad near me that I see truckers park there quite frequently maybe they will let me park there. Don't know yet. Its like literally maybe 5-10 minutes away. That would be ideal. Then again the Walmart is only 20 minutes away so not too bad. hehe rofl-3.gif .
