Why PLEAD? Get a LAWYER.
In most states - if the cop doesn't WITNESS THE ACCIDENT, he cannot testify as to what happened. 9 times out of 10 (at least here in FL) the ticket gets KICKED. He should have written you for "speed too fast for conditions" - if it was "raining hard", and you were doing the speed limit, then you were driving too fast for the weather conditions. That ticket might be sustained in court, due to you telling him you were driving the speed limit in adverse conditions.
You still have the accident to contend with though. This may well prevent you from getting a hire, at least until the 1 year mark with most companies.
TRY AND BEAT THE TICKET. Even a "careless driving" is not something you want on your record, as a CDL holder (even if it didn't occur in a CMV).
A recent accident is bad enough - an accident AND A CITATION is likely going to be the kiss of death for the moment.
Remember - a PRE HIRE LETTER is simply an invitation to orientation, not a guarantee of employment.
TRY AND BEAT THE TICKET.
Best of luck to you...
Rick
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A CMV is a vehicle that is used as part of a business, is involved in interstate commerce, and may fit any of these descriptions:
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.
We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.
Lance, You must protect your license. That is your primary credential for entry into this business. Careless driving in an 80,000 pound CMV can be deadly. Start thinking like a truck driver if you are serious about becoming one.
Please follow Rick's instructions. Not a favorable situation for you, only option is to reduce the impact of the incident and work through the consequences.
Drive safer. Protect your license.
Good luck!

I agree with the above statements.
On the other hand, I know someone that CRST sent thru my school. Her driving record was a mess. She proudly told everyone about the countless speeding tickets and such. She was a HORRIBLE driver, period. The size of the vehicle didn't matter. Luckily she got kicked out of school. Unfortunately, it didn't happen until after she destroyed the front end of the semi crushing a car between it and a guard rail. Truck was repairable, car was totaled. Thankfully no one was injured. Btw, this happened at about 10 mph. Now imagine the outcome at higher speeds and loaded.
Drive Safe and God Speed.

Morning to all....so I received a pre-hire letter from CRST yesterday. And I got into an accident, all in the same day. I drive a taxi during the day. Was doing the speed limit, was raining very hard out, car went left, hit another car. No one was hurt. Officer gave me a careless driving ticket. Court date in 2 weeks. Will plead to unsafe driving in court to avoid the 2 points on my license. There goes my spotless driving record. I will have to notify my recruiter once court is done with. Do you folks think I will still be eligible for schooling? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.
