Is that what it is? I've never wanted to mess with it what with not knowing what it's for, the truck had three windows with screens in them so vent seems off I could be wrong though

I used to be an infantryman. We like pretty pictures! Can you upload a picture? It is worth a thousand words.

I'm guessing some kind of temperature control device or bunk heater control panel. But a picture would help for sure.

It's the self destruct console, don't touch unless you really really mean it.

I'm with Daniel.

Climate control or APU control.

A pic would be nice. Does the screen have anything displayed on it? Any writing around the "knobby thingy"?

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

Temp sensor/Thermostat...

Fairly sure the "Thingy" you describe (as others have suggested) is the thermostat for the bunk area.

One piece of advice though, and I know you aren't asking for this, don't sweat the small stuff.

FYI, for those of you driving for Prime, on their trucks self destruct is controlled by the red button on the dash. Don't push it!!
