Drove under a bridge that read 12'2" the other route out was 12'8" i know the second route was do able because one if the guys i work with told me about it and that he made it under, I decided to take the truck route out and cut some miles off, came around the turn and just before the exit bam, 12'2' i thought to myself @@@@ im screwed but i pulled up to it slow and in the center and had plenty of room. Gotta love NY. Guess some of them are more than 1 foot taller then the sign reads. Either way, made me pucker a bit for the day, lol

For you and any others who may read this. If ever make a wrong turn or what ever reason you come up to a bridge to low or one you're too heavy for. STOP. Call police and explain you need help and your situation. It's much worse to lose your job by taking the top of your truck and or trailer off, or collapsing a bridge you're too fat for.

Stay safe and be careful out there. Also, in NY stay off anything that says parkway.

That I already knew, lol, I drive through the Bronx section quite a bit and that sticks in mind constantly. When i checked the map for this route there were no clearance issues so when i saw this it definitely caught me off guard.

I thought the rule was to park in the driveway, and drive in the parkway...

New York is famous for marking their bridges with strange measurements. Some of them are marked for winter time so that when there is a foot of snow packed on the road you will know how much clearance you have left. There seems to be no consistency to this practice at various places in the state though. It's New York, so we can't expect it to make much sense, that would be boring, like Texas!

When ever I get dispatched into the boroughs, I will usually just take my low bridge unit with me, just to be safe, and feel confident that I'm not going to open up my tractor like a sardine can. Every driver should have one of these... smile.gif20160827_193832_zpsktqqljof.jpg

I thought all your Knight trucks were Volvos, Old School!

This bridge thing is exactly why I never ever want to go back to NYC. I went under one that said 10'9" with a full condo. WTF? It's beyond unreasonable that a city as wealthy as NYC and with as many smart people as they have can't mark their bridges the way every other state does.
