I thought you had to take a 34 if you ran out of your 70 hr clock? My 70 reads -00:04 after logging my 30 minute post trip. Some traffic and a detour cost me some time. Expected to get here with 20-25 minutes to spare after PTI. Dispatch just told me I will get my recap at midnight of 08:13 hrs.

You need a 34hr reset to get your full 70hr clock back. However, at midnight, the 1st day of the cycle drops off and you get those hours back. That's where recaps come in.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

A 30 min post trip?? Why?

Oops:

To amplify, if you're on an 8 day / 70 hour clock, every day at midnight you get back the hours from eight days ago. So tonight (Saturday) at midnight (in the time zone of your home terminal), and if you didn't get a 34-hour reset in during the last 8 days, you get back whatever total hours (on-duty plus driving) that you used a week ago Saturday.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Thanks I thought you had to start over if you went over your 70 for some reason. A 30 min post trip is policy and it can't be 30 everyday. 30 one day 32 the next and mix it up so it doesn't look like pattern logging. Trying to trip plan a dispatch to Sacramento from Storm Lake, IA. I get 08:12 tonight, 09:31 back tomorrow at midnight and 09:23 the next. I can't leave until 03:00 tomorrow the 16th and it's due at 09:00 on the 18th.

28.5 hours drive time from sac to storm lake at 60 mph. (1700 miles) 3pm leave drive 11, shutdown 2:30 am on 17th. Break 10, leave 12:30pm, drive 11 and shutdown midnight 18th. Break 10, leave 10am. Arrive at consignee at 4:30 pm on 18th. That is perfect scenario. My best eta I would tell my DM is 9pm on 18th to allow for fueling, pre-post trips, bathroom stops. That is really pushing it.

Consignee:

The customer the freight is being delivered to. Also referred to as "the receiver". The shipper is the customer that is shipping the goods, the consignee is the customer receiving the goods.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

And I don't have full hours each day. And I cant break for 10 and then roll. I have to wait til midnight to get my next days hours back.

Exactly. Now you're thinking recaps. You have 27 hours to run 28.5 hour load. You won't legally be able to deliver until 0200 on the 19th. Of course that time depends on the time zone your logs are on. Mine are set to PST. On the east coast, I don't get recaps until 0300 local time. Best advice, have DM contact customer service and reschedule delivery time. Or turn down load because of HOS. Good luck.
