What do you mean "should it surprise you?" What do you have to say about it? You're the one that brought it to our attention. Speak about it if you have something to say.

I was waiting for more information before I opened my big mouth. The link you originally posted didn't work for my phone and other sites had conflicting stories.

One said "sex trafficking" not human trafficking. Which to me is MUCH worse than this. And the "a tipster from the truck begging for water" made me suspicious. How did they get out of the trailer?

So let's discuss..."migrant workers" is a politically correct way of saying illegal aliens attempting to enter our country, violating federal laws to do so. Some ran when authorities arrived meaning they did not feel victimized but guilty of said crime.

When you involve other people in helping you to commit a crime, there is great potential for larger crimes and great tragedy.

Is it sad that many of these people have dreams of coming to america for a better life and risk their lives to do so? yes. Is it sad that many of them desperately pay "coyotes" thousands of dollars to get them across the border only to be exploited into owing more money--- yes and no. Its emotional but they asked a criminal to assist them in committing an illegal act.

I feel worse for the 15 year olds who truly had no idea what they were getting themselves into. The rest were adults. They've heard all the stories. They know trailers get hot, they live down south in the heat.

This is not a bunch of teenaged girls kidnapped from China or Venezuela for sex rings....these are grown men (except the two boys) who attempted to commit a crime.

Yes it is horrifying that they died and were basically cooked. Disgusting and gross and unimaginable. Its horrible the others witnessed it.

I still see no explanation of how anyone got out. If someone got out then they weren't "captive" as some sites stated or the trailer would have been locked up.

One site posted it as a bunch of kidnapped people being held against there will. That does not appear to be the case now that more information is disseminating.

When deciding to commit a crime, you take a calculated risk. The driver took the risk of getting caught. The "victims" who chose to get in that trailer risked their lives and freedom to cross a border. Someone had to think "what happens if the trailer fries, how do we contact the driver, how do we get out". The driver had to think that as well.

Everyone is pointing at the horrible evil driver who will go to prison while the "victims" who conspired with him are treated at the hospital, and either be released or will be granted asylum as victims of a crime.

Just goes to show that if we actually enforced our laws, people wouldn't try so hard to get here and this type of thing could be prevented.

And using terms such as "the air conditioning unit was not working" is not giving an accurate description. Lousy journalism. Air conditioning would imply normally safe for people. This must have been a reefer..a refrigeration unit. What if it went the other way and they all froze to death?

Our press has gone to hell. Every news story is slanted. There is no unbiased journalism anymore. No one truly reports news, they give commentary and opinion.

I wonder if people would have seen it differently if there was some sort of porta pot on board and water with climate control. Had they gotten caught but all were well and given provisions would the ACLU come out and support the trucker with a "he was just trying to help.them get a better life".

Go check out the truckers in england who have to chase the illegals from hanging onto the truck and get fined even if they don't know they are there.

Why would you be surprised that the criminal organization infrastructure that supports illegal immigration is not referred to as human trafficking? It is human smuggling. A completely different concept. One has willing participants and one has victims.
