I guess you can put this in the file of stuff they don't tell you about.

A classmate of mine had someone commit suicide by truck this morning in Florida. As he was going by the person jumped in front of his truck.

I hope he is ok which he said he was, but I've known a few drivers that went through this and they ended up hanging up the keys because it was too much for them.

I hope none of you ever experience that situation. Keep your head on a swivel.

That's scary. It is one of my biggest fears. Hope your friend will make it through.

That's definitely one of the most fearful things we deal with. Every time I see someone walking on the shoulder, I keep a sharp eye on them ready to anticipate the worst. Thoughts out to your friend mate.

Damn man, so sorry to hear about your classmate. Hope he is ok and able to work through it. I don't know if I could deal with something like that without hanging up the keys.

Its unfortunate to hear, have it happened to one of my clients last week in Chicago .... a guy on a bicycle tried cutting him of and we all can imagine the end. it does happen and this driver has 30 years under his belt.

I was someone that would watch Sons of Anarchy religiously. One of my favorite shows! That is until the series finale when the lead, Jax, has this big dramatic 'heros death' by going head on with a truck right where his dad died. As much as I enjoyed every episode before that, the fact that they don't address how screwed up that is seriously tarnished my feelings about the entire show. At the time it wasn't because of trucking, but when I was on fire departments I got to see first hand that kind of physical an emotional carnage. We had an SUV with an older couple that crossed the center line, skidded sideways and met a dump truck, each going around 55. The truck driver wasn't from the area, but it would not surprise me in the least based on what I saw him going through if he ended up taking his own life.

I tend to be of the opinion that suicide is an extremely selfish thing to do. But completely messing up the life of someone who has no connection at all to you by forcing them to kill you, that takes the cake for selfishness.

He seems to be doing ok all things considered. Apparently there have been a few of these recently in Florida.

Dan I share your view. While I am against suicide, having dealt with the aftermath of a girlfriend killing herself, involving someone else is just screwed up.
