Electronic Logs mandate is effective on December 18th, 2017.
Electronic Logbook
A device which records the amount of time a vehicle has been driven. If the vehicle is not being driven, the operator will manually input whether or not he/she is on duty or not.
But there is a potential bill on its way through the House and Senate that could delay this by up to two years.
As most major carriers already use elogs , this primarily only affects the smaller trucking companies who are having difficulties with the cost and labor of implementation and training.
And as usual, the livestock carriers are still fighting for an exemption to the elog law. Which I partially understand. The animals gotta get there alive and sitting for 10 hours in the heat and elements could be disastrous.
