Well,

TMC said no, either due to my being at the extreme edge of their hiring area, or my past felonies, (which are all 14+ years old). Either way, it is totally understandable.

CFI and Swift, both said YES! After a lengthy discussion with my wife, which is still ongoing, WE have decided that I will soon be joining the rest of y'all Swifties.

Cortney at CFI is awesome, she was very supportive of my decision, when I told her, and wished me a happy career. Big Scott, I know I used you as a referral source, so I apologize.

Originally, I was going to be sent to Indianapolis, but that changed, and I will be heading down to Errol's stomping grounds. I still have to finish my commitment with my current employer, so won't be heading out until September 11, at the earliest. Plenty of time to finish the High Roads and the Swift courses.

I am assuming, because I live in Niagara Falls, that I will be out of Syracuse Terminal.

It feels like it took me forever to get to this point. I have all of you guys to thank, for putting up with me, and helping me on this path.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Congratulations! Don't sweat that refusal from TMC. They rejected me multiple times! It is what it is, and it has no bearing on your potential for success out here.

Let me just say this: The ball is about to start rolling really fast. There are going to be times when you will want to throw in the towel - it happens to each of us. Keep a long term commitment going and see it through. There will be some paychecks that you will look at and shake your head in bewilderment, and there will be others at which you will feel a real sense of accomplishment and be proud of what you accomplished. The goal is to keep at it until those feelings of accomplishment regularly accompany most of your work weeks. It is no cake-walk getting this career into full gear, but the few that manage it are a happy lot. I hope you will become one of the chosen few who make it to the top!

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Thank you Errol, I will definitely be in contact.

In your journal, you mentioned that they were moving the training facility from Millington, to Memphis. I am assuming that this happened, by now. Do you know the hotel they house the students in?

Don't know the hotel, I believe it's several miles west. Yes, the Academy has new digs right next door to the terminal. You can see it in G-maps satellite. (School's on the right side.)

Took a few days, but I managed to get my 1 year card. Being diabetic created a hurdle, that I should have been prepared for. My a1c, was still "current," but only by 2 days. I was given a choice. Get a 3 month card, or get new labs done, and get a release form filled out by my PCP. I opted for the second choice. Getting the labs scheduled and completed was the easy part. Finding a time to get squeezed in for the appointment with my Dr, was a nightmare. I was saved by a cancelation. at 2:30 I saw my Dr. She signed the paperwork, and then I was off to the races. I ran to the main building, while my wife grabbed the car to meet me there. I got my 1 year card, at 2:45pm and then we headed for the DMV to take my permit test. And got stuck in traffic, and Every. Single. Stop light. The DMV stops doing permit tests at 3:05pm at the latest. Before I even got half way up the line, time ran out. But then I realized that I forgot my Birth Certificate, so it would have been a futile effort anyway.

So, on Tuesday I will be there as soon as the doors open, to take the test.

I have been keeping my recruiter (Tim) updated. He told me that he really appreciated me using the "Tenstreet - Driver Pulse" messaging to communicate with him, and It would make his day easier, if all potential drivers did that. I learned that lesson here, with the advice to use Qualcomm whenever possible.

Stay safe

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Passed my permit test today! I missed 1 question in Each category.

I contacted Tim (Swift recruiter) now just waiting for my official itinerary to arrive in Memphis, and start this new adventure. My excitement level is more than I anticipated, haha!

Stay safe
