Hi, I'm 24 and about to start school for my CDL on Monday. I've been trying to do some research including callin a few recruiters and reading a ton of articles on here. And while I have found a bunch of useful info and a few companies I'm interested in, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the companies I'm looking at would not accept me due to a misdemeanor receiving/transferring stolen goods charge in mar of 2014 and a possession misdemeanor in late 2013, also an old speeding ticket or two but they should be over 5yrs old seeing as my old job was DOT regulated w oilfield and insurance cleared me to drive company pickup. The companies in most interested in at the moment are Celadon, Prime and Maverick? And help would be much appreciated! Thanks

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

You're going to have to speak to companies individually to find out what their current policies are and how they'll handle your situation. Even though you don't have a felony, we have a list of companies and their policies on accepting drivers with felonies and it will give you some great ideas for where to start looking:
