Does anyone have any idea when the Hwy I-84, northern Oregon, will open up for traffic? I was on my way from Eugene to Salt Lake City on a Greyhound for Prime. Showed up to Portland terminal and they tell me that it is closed. Rode the Greyhound back to Eugene and will try next Sunday evening. Can the clean-up take even more time to wait?

Thanks

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

They have a detour for trucks. It's a long way around. Don't know why Greyhound doesn't know it. If I remember correctly it's 26 to 216 to 219 to 84. Not sure if I rember it correct, but there is great sinage. Hope that helps.

Saw something yesterday that said ODOT expects it to be at least another week before they reopen the road. There's a lot of debris to clean up, and they have to assess the risk of slides due to bare hillsides that used to be all brushy.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Wildfires in Oregon, Washington causing road closures and HOS exemptions

According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, I-84 between Troutdale and Hood River remains closed as well as the Historic Columbia River Highway with no timeline available for their reopening.

Washington State Route 14 is open to passenger traffic, but closed to commercial vehicles.

In Washington, all vehicles over 10,000 GVW are prohibited on eastbound SR 14 between Washougal (milepost 19) and U.S. 197 in Dallesport (milepost 84). Freight haulers should plan an alternate route. There is no estimate for lifting the restrictions.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Have you followed up with Prime in regards to the situation? If you choose to fly, they may help with some of the cost towards the plane ticket.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Yes, they will cover up to a certain amount. I see it as getting a discount on my plane ticket to a company who is willing to train me for a career that I don't know anything about. I like to think of myself as a person who will do whatever it takes to get the job done. I am excited for my new adventure to this lifestyle. ( I do realize that it will be difficult in the beginning and challenging at times for the rest of my life)
