Martyn, welcome to our forum!
We've had a few guys in the past who came over from European countries and got driving jobs over here. One of the problems you'll face is most states here require you to hold a U.S. license for one year before you can apply for the commercial driver's license - doesn't matter to them that you've years of experience over seas.
Try putting the word "England" in the search bar at the top of this page. You'll have to weed out a bunch of threads on C.R. England, but I know we've had a couple of guys come from England and find jobs here eventually.
Additionally there is the problem of getting a work visa for truck driving. It is next to impossible due to our government's classification of our job.
I wish you the best, and am sorry I can't be of a whole lot of help to you. Feel free to ask us more questions as you continue the pursuit.
So I'm thinking of relocating and driving a truck in the States, I drive one here in the UK, have done for 10 years or more, guess you're all gonna tell me not to bother, or maybe you'll help me live my dream.
Immigration Forums elsewhere on the web will be your best bet as you will need a Green Card to work here legally (I'm assuming you aren't a US citizen).
