Hey guys so just decided after talking to my wife last night to get my cdl. So we went to a concert tonight and I got pulled over for 20 over but the cop only ticketed me for 5 over which carries no points. I have no prior speeding tickets since I starting driving in 2000. So this is a 2 part question will that affect my ability to get a job? Secondly should I plead not guilty to try and reduce it? I'm from pa and the company I was looking at was schneider. I don't drive fast typically but she kept saying we were going to be late.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

One ticket by its lonesome in such a long period shouldn't effect you. I had a single ticket that was still in the 3 year window for 14 over and I had no problem getting a job.

My brother just got a ticket for 25 over but the cop was nice and gave him 19 over. Said if he took it to court he'd tell how fast he was really going. I'd just pay it considering you already got off easy. Shouldn't hurt your job opportunities much at all.

I'm not sure if you realize it or not, but that cop was really kind to you. If that ticket had been written for fifteen over you may be waiting another three years before you could find a trucking job.

Almost all the major carrier's are going to consider 15 over as reckless driving, and they wouldn't be able to insure you.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I did realize how nice the cop was to me it was just a kick to my pride that I got it. I'm happy to hear that it shouldn't affect me I want to join the family of truckers. It's tiring to be working and still be considered in the "working poverty" class.

Let me take a wild guess, the reason why you were running late to the concert was because she took forever to get dressed up?

HEY!! be nice lol or ill find her and tell her you blamed her.

my ex hubby once got pulled over after i kept telling him to slow down. the cop let him off with a warning and i argued with the cop to ticket him. "Pal, im letting you go. You have much bigger problems than a ticket".

jerk! lol

At least the cop didn't slip him a business card with the contact info for a domestic abuse shelter, lol
