Accidents/Tickets Impact On Landing A Job

Hey everyone.

Looking for some input. Just got my CDL and as luck would have it, got into an accident with my personal vehicle AND was given a ticket. I would consider myself a good/safe driver. This was my first accident in about 20 yrs.

How much does something like this impact my job prospects?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

It depends on what you were charged with and the details of the incident. If at all possible fight it with a lawyer that specializes in traffic accidents. It could make you unhireable at some companies for a certain amount of time or might not matter. If you have a company in mind already, call a recruiter and ask...
