I try to only do a max of 9 hours a day on duty, so I drive off recaps, seldom do I ever need a 34-hour reset. Of that time each day, about 8 hours driving. Average about 450 to 550 miles per day. Each load is different, though. It worked out really well for me this August when I was out for all 30 days, reaching more than 14,000 miles and no resets.

Hey friends! Im a dedicated route driver but plan to be otr at some point. Thats what i originally wanted but didn't know the difference between regional dedicated when talking to my recruiter. I'm otr dedicated but i want to cover more states. I was wondering how many hours a day you far distance otr state to state drivers put in behind the wheel everyday? I know theres different factors that determine that. I just figure now all my loads are dispacthed 1 to 3 hours away i sleep at reciever over night. I figure if i go far distance otr I'll be behind the wheel 10hrs a day which i know could be exhausting. I do figure ill spend hours of my time at the shipper and receivers though. My main question is what kind of hours you guys are putting in behind the wheel on a day to day basis?
Shipper:
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
Dedicated Route:
A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."
Regional:
Regional Route
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
