Bran009, check out this link on our site. I think you'll find it helpful. It's full of ideas on what to bring to school, what to bring on your trainer's truck, and what you will want with you on your fiirst solo truck.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
In the company sponsored training reviews compiled by Brett, in which you’ll find lists if necessary items to bring for training plus a few weeks ago a thread was started on must haves in the truck. You can use the search bar to find it.
A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.
The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.
If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.
Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.
Thanks! I must of missed that when looking through.

Alright, I know this is super early but I just want to get some ideas and suggestions. Here in a few months I'm going to be choosing a CDL Training program and taking the plunge to be a driver and I want to get a list in mind of things I need or might want for when I get my truck a few months after that.
Really I know it is early, but I know money is going to be tight until I get going solo and want to be on the look out for deals or sales. So what are some things that you absolutely need? What are some good comforts? I know I need a laminated road atlas and a trucking gps, but what should I go with? I've heard suggestions of the Rand McNally Overdryve and the 740, just not sure what would be good.
Thanks! you folks are great!
