Well Free Spirit, everybody has their own way of doing things. I've seen some drivers whose sole exercise is tearing open a 2 lb. bag of Doritos while waiting at the shippers dock! Then they do some arm curls with a two liter bottle of soda! Now I'm not recommending this, but like I say there is all kinds of ways to get a work out in while you're out here.
What I do is lift my two 135 lb tarps up on my shoulder and tote them around to where I want them on my trailer. Or I'll unfold em and spread em out on a load, or I might take them off a load and fold them up and then carry them to the back of the cab and strap them onto the rack.
There's room in the sleeper to do some stretching if you like, some folks take a bicycle with them strapped to the back of the cab, others enjoy taking a jog while at a truck stop. I've even seen some drivers with a small exercise mat that they will lay in the parking lot of the truck stop or over in the grass and they have a regular routine they will go through. You don't have to become a fat slob just because you're a truck driver. It just takes a little initiative, some determination, and good woman constantly reminding you that you're looking a little fat around the edges every now and then. So you just keep that man of yours on his toes, and he won't go the way of the Doritos and soda exercise routine.
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
I used to carry adjustable weight dumbbells with me that went up to 60 pounds for a little strength training and I used to go jogging as often as possible - usually four or five days a week. It's hard to get an actual routine of any sort because your schedule is crazy but it's certainly doable if you have the discipline to make it happen.
Well, I've been a exercise fan and gym rat all my life. I'm HOPING to have time to go to LA Fitness occasionally in my down-time. Their membership allows you to go to any gym in the country. The catch is having down-time in a large enough city or town that actually HAS one. Other than that, I'm going to do what Brett did-just get the adjustable set and use that whenever possible. I plan on designing a "trucker's workout" program once I get going and share it with y'all..
I just enter my 3rd month, still in training, but i lift 15lb weights, when we pull into a truckstop for the night i run for 30-45min, and when i go shower, i do push-up off the sink. i do this every day, and i only eat a good breakfest and eat little snacks as the day pass. so far ive lost 10lbs already so it works for me. and oh yea if i happen to find a stop with a fitness room, im in there for about hour.
Thanks for the replies....Old School, you crack me up I love reading your replies and stories. I just wanted to get some ideas of what's to be expected once I get out there with my man. I'll be sure to "crack the whip"
I do worry ( as a woman does) about Jeff's diet while in training, he's kinda of worried also due to the fact he will be in someone's space and have to roll with the flow. However, I do know this is the least of our worries....Safety is priority!! I have already busted him on a bag of chips I heard crunching through the phone
Rico, congrats on the #10 loss! Brett, that's a great idea about the adjustable weights. I'll have to grab one or two, that way we can both use it. And of course, if Jeff ends up with a flatbed, then he'll definitely get his exercise with that!!!LOL!
Gary, that's a great idea also. I used to do Crossfit (back in a day when I could afford it), so I will just have to dig into my WOD book and pull some moves out!
Every one take care and be safe!

Does anyone have an exercise regiment while OTR?
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
