Bryan, Congrats on the sobriety. My sobriety date is 12/16/2006. I myself have two DUI's from back then. With the shortage of drivers im sure there us a company that will put you on. As earlier mentioned you may have to spend your first year with a company that keeps you out longer than you want, but after that then your options may well open up. Good luck.

I talk to Rickipedia. He told me the 2 DUI disqualifier is if you hold a CDL when you get the DUIs. Nothing precludes someone federally with 4 DUIs from getting a CDL, if the happened with a non commercial license. The issues will fall with what are the specific state guidelines and particular company policies.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

How is he doing? Is he doin ok? Did you let him know we miss him on here?

He is doing well. He has his puppy that occupies most of his free time. He redoubled his efforts at his work. Seems that when his personal life is in disarray is when he spends enormous amounts of time here. When he has his personal affairs in order and is doing well, than his RL takes precedence.

Thats perfectly understandable.

It's like reading lawyer documents. I think I'm eligible but confusing nonetheless. I found another company that will take me I think and even allow me to go in their driving school long as i promise to drive with them. So about 12 rejection and 3 job offers with 4 old duis. Smaller companies are where it's at if you had history of duis, and for heavens sake don't go for the CDL unless your sobered up. Also, this company will get me home every weekend on a regional route for 48 hours. Just what I'm looking for, and if I need the miles I can switch OTR. I love these small companies

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Thanks friend. You will find that once more time lapses since your DUI the more companies will hire you. I've done some digging. I got 4 ranging from 1997 to 2006 And I may be able to go to company sponsored training with a job offer with good home time which is what I want. Plus I got a backup company with a prehired letter they ran my me and background and I passed. I do have a big list of companies however that will never hire me but most of those will hire with one DUI as long as its far enough back.

Hope it works out for you I myself have a dui 3/13, so far I've had 2 companies said they would hire me, I got my dui 1 week before I was suppose to start school worst mistake of my life but I haven't given up on this career, keep your head up.

Prehire:

What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.

During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

Company Sponsored Training:

A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.

The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.

If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.

Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.

As far as insurance it won't matter they are far enough back.

Susan, After reading your response you had me questioning myself yet again as to what is a disqualifying event. I found a couple websites that indicate that two or more DUI 's in any type of motor vehicle (Commercial or personal) comes with a lifetime CDL disqualification.

Please review the responses on this website.

That is not to say that it is not possible for him to fall through a crack and get one issued but even if that happened would an insurance company honor an accident claim if god forbid he has one. And like pointed out how many companies will be able to get him insured properly.

That is precisely why I suggested he seek legal help.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
