So last month I decided to get away from Flatbed after about 6 years and have decided to go to Reefer. I have put in the apps and have gotten replies from about 6 companies (that is the narrowed down list from 17). The two on the top are Prime and Knight. My questions what is the Pros and Cons of both. I have done a lot of research and narrowed them down about home time, type of transmissions, Perks in the truck, etc. My question is what do you all who actually drive for the companies think of them and how well they treat you, etc? Are the miles there? How long are you out vs how it takes for you to get home?

I can read and call the recruiters and have done that. I have researched the websites as well, but sometimes the best way to find out about a company is ask its drivers directly.

I've been with Prime for almost 2 years. I'm getting 2400 - 3000 miles a week, on average.

Overall I'm happy. My fleet manager gets me home on time when I request it, doesn't try to micro manage me, but is there if I have any questions or problems. The trucks are nicely equipped.

You are truly the captain of the ship. I've never had a problem when shutting down for weather / safety.

Cons: load locks and tire chains must be purchased by the driver. (Flatbed guys have to purchase all their straps and tarps. ) It is payroll deducted over time. (Sorry, I don't remember the exact cost per check)

Fleet Manager:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
